Tuff Cable Snow Melting Under a Metal Roof

Many homeowners and businesses are switching from asphalt shingle to metal roofs. Metal roofs have a longer life span compared to asphalt shingles. However, their simple concept in design leads to massive ice dams at the overhang. These ice dams are not only damaging to the structure but can also be dangerous to pedestrians below.

This church in Utica, New York had a problem with their old shingled roof; ice would form from the roof's drip edge down to the entrance walkways, creating a slip and fall hazzard, let alone the falling ice.

You are looking at their new Tuff Cable Under Metal Roof, Snow Melting system. This system will help them get the long term use of the metal roof and prevent ice dam buildup at the drip edge. The gutters and downspouts are equipped with an ice melting system as well to keep the water from refreezing.

WHAT YOU ARE SEEING IN THE PICTURE
The Heatizon Tuff Cable Heat Sink system is installed on the plywood surface of the roof leaving plenty of nailing room. Ice and water membrane is laid over the top of the heat sink and the metal roof is laid directly over the membrane. The gutters and downspouts will be installed to a flush surface later in the project.

This project is ongoing. We will have updated pictures soon.
